How Josh & Sarah Met

Yes, welcome. And so these podcasts are gonna be all about Jesus. But we thought it would be a great idea as we're on the start of this podcast journey that we would just share a little bit of who me and Sarah are, our hearts, so that you can get to know us and get to know who we are a little bit more. Hopefully that makes sense. So Darlene, would you like to start and just share about how we met?

So yeah, we met in 2022 at the um fire camp in Norwich. And um the reason why I was there is that I was preaching on the Call of the Evangelist. It was such an honor that was given to me by C Fan UK, and um one of the reasons why I was invited there is because only the people who have been trained in the evangelism boot camp at uh in Orlando will be able to then teach. So I went to Orlando in 2021, um, graduated, and I learned a lot about evangelism and I learned a lot about the gospel and how to share the gospel, and out of that they had initiatives like Fire Camp, Decapolis, different things to get involved in. And so when I came back to the UK, I then was invited to preach on the Call of the Evangelist, which was amazing. And Josh was a student, him and his friend Kurt were there, and of course, other people were there, and Josh was that was a student, and um, yeah, I thought he was very cute.

And just before we carry on, I just have one question for you, actually. In a quick 10 seconds or 15 seconds, do you want to maybe explain just a little bit more about what boot camp entails?

What is Evangelism Bootcamp?

C Fan, uh Christ for All Nations, um formerly by Ryan Habunki, who has now gone home to be with the Lord, and now it's been run by an incredible man of God, Daniel Kal Evangelist Daniel Kalender, and it's literally an intensive, um, almost like mini Bible school, focus, of course, on the gospel and on evangelism, but it also kind of gives you an overview of why we believe what we believe. And we you're there for three months, you meet people from all over the world. I met people from Switzerland, Germany, America, you know, um, Panama, and um I was in the second group of of the the the cohort, and they train you for three months, and then you go to uh uh a mission ground trip and you put to practice what you've learned. And you know, it's such an incredible um uh what do you call it, kind of like program that I was a part of it. I encountered Jesus, it changed, it was life-changing, and um that is one of the reasons why we preached the gospel, but also why we're passionate about the gospel. So it was all really, I was just inspired by Christ for all nations, and of course, Jesus the one that gave us the idea for us to go.

Josh’s Journey to Bootcamp & Missions

Amen. Yeah, yes, and so fun carrying on from uh from that, we met at the fire camp where, as I said, I was a student and Sarah was one of the teachers there. He indeed was, and uh yeah, we got talking, and while we were there, I remember we had uh a conversation about intimacy and about spending time with the Lord, and I remember going away from that com uh conversation thinking, wow, you know, uh having the thought uh I wonder if that's gonna be my wife. And I remember at first I uh I kind of um thought, no, that's not you know, that's not gonna happen, that's not possible. But you know, a few years fast forward, and here we are. But after that fire camp, um the Lord actually told me to go to boot camp as well, and so I quit my job in faith and I went out to Orlando for three months, yeah, and then I went to Ghana.

And and for all that time we were friends, we tried to be friends, and um we were talking, and I think it was really while you were away that we fell in well, we fell in I I believe we fell in love before that, but the Lord started speaking to us about each other, and and so when you went to Ghana, um and then you had an initiation trip there, which was incredible. Then when you came back, things kind of moved pretty quickly.

Yeah, and then we I the whole time throughout that we had been, of course, praying about whether we were right for one another, if if the you know, if the Lord was in it, and and that Sarah knew much quicker than I did. I I I admit I had to catch up, but anyway, that's another story which I'm sure we'll talk about in more in-depth another time.

Dating, Marriage & God’s Timing

But yeah, we came back and we started dating and and and quick note we started dating and he brought me to his church, and um a few people thought that he um he brought me back from Africa. He found an African girl and shipped them back, yeah. Um but really we it's because we met and we were talking, but we kept it well, I didn't, he kept it kind of like to himself, and so people didn't actually know that he was talking to somebody, and so that explains why people thought he bought me from Ghana. But yeah, and then we got married in 2023, yeah. Which was fantastic which was great.

Taking a Year Out of Ministry

Yeah, we got married, and then the Lord made it very clear to us that we had to take a year out of ministry. Um, we had quite a few different opportunities, didn't we, babe? We to go on different missions, many, many. And I remember specifically one time I got asked to preach in uh the local church, and I remember I prayed about it and I said, you know, Lord, do you want me to do this? And I remember very clearly that the Lord said to me, Josh, you can um you can do it, yeah, but my grace will not be with you. And I remember when I heard that, I thought, my goodness, I am not well, I'm not gonna preach without his grace, and so yeah, the Lord made it so clear to us, he just kept saying no, no, no to every opportunity. Um and that, and so yeah, we took a year out of ministry.

Took a year out, took a year out, and it was you know, it was hard, but it was it was good for us. We got to know each other, we got to just settle into marriage. I was, you know, I had moved all the way from London to a new a new family, a new church. I had a I I was made redundant during during that time. Um, new friends, so much change, new towns. So I think it was good that the Lord took us, tell us to have that year, and it was the best, it was one of the best times of our lives because it was for the well for me for the first time I had no responsibilities in ministry-wise, because the Lord has said nope.

So, yeah, and so yeah, that's a little bit of how we met in a sense. But Sarah, I want to just ask you a question. While I was at boot camp and I was, you know, at the um on my doing my initiative and that, what were you doing?

The Birth of Light UK

I before I met Josh, I the Lord had spoken spoken to me about Light UK, um, or I believe the Lord has spoken to me because I I believe that the way Light UK is now is how it should have been back then. But I think I was so on fire and I wanted to do something great for the Lord that I was like, I want to put on crusades, and and so I've I started Light UK with a few people um and a few people joined me, and you know, we put on an event in London. Um, but I always dreamt that I would do this kind of thing with somebody and not by myself. So I did Light UK, and then obviously when we got married, we took a break from Light UK, um, and we laid it down. Whether God wanted us to carry on with it, we didn't know, but I knew that we were supposed to do something together because we both love Jesus, we both love what God has called us to do. So um we laid that down, and then it wasn't until 2024, after a year, that slowly God started bringing ministry back into our hearts and preaching again and leading in church, and even then it wasn't until 2025 that we did the the events. Rebuilding the Ministry Together

Yeah, so as as Sarah just said, we we started um working on get Light UK together again and the Lord completely had us strip it back and start again in and you know that's because it's as it says in the word, you know, when people get married, two become one flesh, and so we have become one flesh, and so in a sense, Light UK God ha uh wants has it for both of us, and so yeah, we completely stripped it back and we made a new website, didn't we? And we did a lot of work in the background to build up, and then last year in 2025, we actually put on our uh on two events in our local church called Fellowshipping with Jesus, and yeah, they were amazing. Do you maybe just Sarah want to just share a little bit briefly on what uh the Fellowship in Jesus events were about?

with Jesus events are purely um events that the Lord just wanted us to focus on him. Um, as Christians, we we we we we can become so programmed, and it's all about our program Sunday. This is what happens, but the Lord asked us to create a space where it's just for him, but to also learn about him. So it's not it's not a soaking session, you know, it was to bring in people that are walking both in fellowshipping with God in intimacy, but then they're living that out in their daily life through telling people about the gospel, telling uh evangelizing, so it was both, and it was open to anyone that wanted to come, and we really truly encountered the Lord, and um it it's not it wasn't it's for the church, but it was also if an unbeliever came to our meetings, they will hear the gospel because intimacy you can't I I don't know how I can teach about intimacy and not incorporate what Jesus did on the cross for us.

To be honest, we did see somebody we did see someone somebody get saved, we saw somebody, you know, recommit their lives to the Lord, and we also saw um and we also saw you know people really were encountering the Lord and really touch, yeah, touched by the Lord. Do you want to shall I open the laptop?

Yeah, we'll cut that out, that part out again. Yeah, don't maybe we shouldn't close the laptop. It was still recording anyway.

And so, yeah, people were really touched by the Lord, and so yeah, we had a great, great time doing our fellowshipping with Jesus events.

That brings us to this year a little bit. Do you want to just share a bit more about what Light UK is doing?

Blogs, Ministry Growth & Future Events

um I mean we we've continued with our blog, and that blog, you know, we've had you know, we've continued writing that blog, and again, it uh it's about being faithful to what God is telling you to do. I used to write blogs back in the day when I f I was first saved, and I thought when the Lord asked us to write blogs again, I thought no one reads blogs anymore, and actually it's not true, people do. We've had people from what from China, Germany, Iran, people that are reading our blogs, and it's been really, really nice to know that people are getting blessed and they're being encountered and they're encountering the Lord, so yeah. Um, and then we are hoping to also do more events in the future, fellowshipping with Jesus events. We do want to do more of those events for the local church, um, and also just to gather believers who want to just hear all about Jesus and who he is and how amazing he is. So we hope to do that soon.

Yeah, and even in regards to the blogs, I'm just throwing it out there. I know my maze uh wife, she's been uh doing most of the blogs, and actually I I might be a bit biased, but I think she's got an amazing gift for writing, and it's not just me that said that, and so I'd encourage you guys to check them out if you haven't yet on the on our light uk website. Um, but actually, I even wrote my first blog as well a little while back, and so I'm quite proud of that. That was a big step for me, and so yeah, check them out, guys, and then also um yeah, we're trusting the Lord for to do some more fellowshipping with Jesus events uh in the coming year years, and we believe that that's gonna spread, and hopefully, we'll be able to encourage more churches and go to different areas and stuff, yeah. Um, and then yeah, what's the do you want to share the exciting news?

Uganda Mission Announcement

we will be going to Uganda. Um we'll be going to Uganda in September this year. We are so excited because I think for you it's been three years since you've been on missions, and for me it's been about four. So it's been a long time to travel. We we've been praying, Lord, when when do you want us to travel? What do you want us to do? And um the Lord just hasn't given us that go-ahead, but now He has, and it's gonna be my um going to my country, so that's amazing. I can't wait.

Yeah, so when we go to Uganda, we're super excited. Um, I'm really excited to see Sarah because that's where she's from, and um but while we're there, we're gonna be doing some youth crusades, so that's gonna be really exciting, and then we're also gonna be partnering with some of the local churches and maybe doing an actual hopefully doing a little uh maybe small fellowship in with Jesus event out there in Uganda. Um, and then at the same time, I'm really excited to see some of where Sarah is from and to see a bit of the Ugandan culture. Sarah, how long has it been since you've been last from Uganda last?

SPEAKER_02 14:07

I haven't been to Uganda since 2007. Wow, and that's not a good thing, that's not something I'm proud of. But um, I think also it's right timing and God just kind of moving the way He wants us to move and encouraging us to go there. So I'm excited because I'll get a chance to see family, but I'll get a chance to also share the gospel first in my own home country. So it will be fun, and I'm really looking forward to what God's gonna do. And um, yeah, I'm excited. And guys, you know, we encourage you, please pray for us. Why Start a Podcast?

Yeah, so these podcasts have been a bit of a journey. Let's just say that we will go into a lot more detail one day when the timing's right, but yeah, the Lord put these on our hearts a while ago, and it's been a real journey. We didn't realise, I'll admit, I didn't realise just how much work has gone into getting it to this stage where we're able to record. Yeah. I mean, we did I never, for one, I never I'll be honest with you guys, I never realised just how technical it all was. Very technical.

Um, you know, and so it looks so simple when you watch other people do a podcast, don't it, doesn't it?

SPEAKER_01 15:45

Yeah, it it can look so simple, but yeah, we've didn't you know, we've had to get buy it get all this equipment, then we've had to learn how to use it, and then we've had to obviously learn how to edit it, and yeah, there's so much more to it than than we than we realised. But it's been it's been amazing. It's been fun, but challenging. Challenging. But it's great to finally be here where we're able to Yeah, and it's all do this.

Yeah, and it's it's it's it's all about you know doing it for God. He's told us to do it because it's such a uh podcasts, Christian podcasts are a busy, busy space, but the Lord said, I want you to do this, I want you to talk to people and disciple people in intimacy, in my walk with you, with God, in in just sharing the word, just share your faith with people on on a podcast. Because actually, darling, what I find amazing is that you know, in a way, God is using the the outlet that is popular now, just like in back in the day they used tablets and then they moved to like you know, using I don't know, scrolls. Now it's not just um blogging, it's podcasts, and the Lord wants to actually use those podcasts. And so, what would our podcasts be about?

What This Podcast Will Be About

so these podcasts ultimately they're gonna be all about Jesus. You know, that's we would have never done these podcasts in the first place if if it wasn't about Jesus. No, he was the one that really put it on our hearts and in a sense kept pestering us to do them. Um, and so yeah, these podcasts are gonna be basically what it looks like to have fellowship with Jesus and walk with God in a in a sense on a daily basis of what it looks like in the with in your workplace, in your marriage, in your eating and drinking, in your health and fitness, in your friendships, um, in just basically every aspect of life, what it looks like to truly walk with God and include him in your daily basis, uh in your daily life. And so of course, we're gonna be led by the Spirit and how he wants it to do it, and we will obvious sh you know talk about have different guests and stuff, and we'll have testimonies, we'll talk about healings, you know, basically because you know, when you think about Jesus, there's so many different topics you can have, yeah. But to sum it up, ultimately it's all gonna be about

About him and and how to do life with him, and and you know, we uh disclaimer like we uh we're this is not uh a podcast where we're gonna be trying to have debates and and talk about what the president has done now or what the next scandal has been. We I get there's a there's I I get that there are people that are doing that, but for us, you know, I I actually sometimes as a listener I sometimes just want to hear a podcast about God and loving him and the his word and exploring the word of God and talking about the you know the the the saints of old and talking about the Bible and um I don't really want to be traumatized. I think there's so much out there that sometimes it's traumatizing. We this isn't gonna be where we're just gonna be pouring out our daily lives to you, we're gonna be talking about what God is putting on our heart and encouraging people and encouraging each other to walk together with Jesus. Would you agree?

Yeah, no, I agree. And actually, even while you were talking that I was just reminded that another one other thing that we really want to talk about that I think sometimes Christians can miss is we want to talk about the power of the gospel in our daily lives. You know, the gospel is not just a one-time prayer where you get you know forgiven for your sins and then that's it, but there's so much more to like what does it look like to live in the victory of Jesus Christ, to live in the freedom of Jesus Christ. And so, you know, when I'm not gonna start preaching to you now or anything like that, but we're gonna start sharing and exploring those. And so, yeah, what are we hoping for that in that will happen in these podcasts?

hoping that people will get saved. We're gonna share the gospel, yeah. You know, we're gonna talk about missions and and we're gonna talk about just just different things that God is doing in our lives, but also that's why having special guests on is gonna be really interesting because you know, intimacy is doesn't look the same with everybody. Walking with God doesn't look the same with everybody, and so I'm I'll be interested to bring a prophet in maybe one day and and then talk to them about how their intimacy with the Lord looks like. I'm sure it'll be very different to an evangelist, but all of them will be burning for Jesus. So we're hoping that with this podcast that we're gonna burn together, that we're gonna encourage each other in the Lord. So we want you guys to comment. You know, if you're blessed, please comment. Um, and if you and and also if if you you do get saved and you hear about Jesus and you I want to know more about Jesus, email us and we will kind of send you the resources we have or direct you to a church that is available to you. So we it's honestly just for us to share as much of Jesus as we can with others, but also to just grow together and to have an outlet to share Jesus.

Yeah, ultimately, yeah, yeah. I mean, great, and ultimately, you know, to sum it up, we want to, of course, people to get safe, but we also really want to encourage the body of Christ and help them to grow in their intimacy with the Lord, to grow in their relationship with the Lord, because ultimately that's what it's all about. That's why we're on this earth as humans, we were created for intimacy with God. You know, it says in the beginning, Adam and Eve walked with God with God, and we were made to walk with God, and so we want to try and share, and hopefully, we will encourage one another and yeah, all learn and grow together in our relationships with the God. So, yeah, yeah, please keep us in your prayers, pray with us for to be spirit-led that God will speak through us. Um, and so we're gonna be sharing uh podcasts every week, aren't we, darling?

We're gonna share them every week but seasonal. So it won't be every week, every day, every week of the year. We'll share the podcast every week for a season, take a break, and then as a lot, we want to be led by you know, it's interesting. We want to be led by the Lord. It's so easy to get into momentum, you know. I mean, keep moving. But we want to be led by the Lord. So we're gonna share the podcast this summer and then we'll take a break, and then in autumn we'll come back and then take a break.
